World We Dare To Imagine: Changing the world through sports
Sports has been an integral part of my life. As a person of privilege, I never had to worry about buying the right sports equipment and being able to pay for my travel to wherever the match/practice was. However, among my peers were countless people who had to struggle for these basic things and yet, this did not stop them from pursuing their passion.
Throughout high school, I learnt more outside the classroom than in it. Sports doesn't just teach you skills for the field, it teaches you life skills. Hardwork, teamwork, defying the odds, fighting till the last pitch, dealing with failure, leading a team. These are just some of the skills I learnt from sports and that too, at a very young age.
My dream after graduation is to make sports available and affordable to every person in India and eventually, the world. The value that sports creates doesn't just stop at the individual level. In fact, sports bolsters the economy as a whole.

Athletes are fitter, healthier and have higher life expectancy, thus reducing the burden of healthcare on the state. The sports industry is booming and more people are taking up sports as a professional career rather than a hobby.
In the world I dare to imagine, there will be a sports complex in every district of India and my dream is to be able to contribute to that in whatever way possible.
I think this is a great idea! The older I get the more appreciative I become about the opportunities I had and the endless extra curricular activities I got to participate in, so it makes me sad when I see some people not being able to experience that. I would love to hear more specific ways you think of contributing though. For example, will you make sports more affordable through a donation program or are you going to offer people free sport lessons?
ReplyDeleteAmbar,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your notion of the importance of sports, especially at a young age. As being an individual that grew up playing competitive sport, I understand the impact they have on a persons' life. I think your next step in enacting your vision, is creating an organization in India with a similar model of the Boys and Girls or YMCA. Making sports accessible to to youth is an extremely important mission, which needs to be pursued.
Hi Ambar! I totally agree with your vision of making sports more accessible to all. All in all making sports more accessible to everyone takes away privilege and helps tackle childhood obesity around the world. What are some of your ideas in order to tackle this issue?
ReplyDeleteAmbar,
ReplyDeleteYour passion for India and your motivation to bring sports into people’s lives is incredibly admirable. I know and think you will change your country and build something very positive in your life. I think sports is a great way of building self-worth and learning how to work with others, and it is a shame that not everyone in the world has equal access to being able to play sports. I think your effort to bring this issue into light is very important and know you have the ability to do it.
